Concept information

Preferred term

  • Strips of fabric, leather or other materials - traditionally vegetable fibers - which are attached to a frame with nails and sometimes serve as a base for padding materials. Traditionally, the straps are placed on the frame which forms a seat or backrest. However, since the advent of sprung upholstery, they have been placed under the frame to leave space for the springs.
